Activist and political figure, Aisha Yesufu, has expressed dissatisfaction with the process leading to the selection of candidates for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Her remarks came during an interaction with party officials, where she questioned what she described as inconsistencies in the handling of the nomination process and the reasons given for her not emerging as the party’s candidate.

According to Yesufu, party leaders had made earlier commitments regarding consultation and engagement with stakeholders, and she insisted that such commitments should be upheld to ensure fairness within the party structure.

She also noted that she was recently informed that her late entry into the party was a factor considered in the selection process, a development she suggested negatively affected her chances.

“I was told recently that I came in late to this party. Who does that? I have endured a lot in the last few days. My name has been dragged all over,” she said.

The activist emphasised that she was not demanding preferential treatment but rather a transparent and credible process that would allow all aspirants equal opportunity.

“I am not even asking for a level playing ground, I am asking for a ground,” she stated.

She added that she would have accepted the outcome if the process had been conducted fairly and transparently, regardless of whether she won or lost.

“I am ready to accept that I lost. If I lost fairly, I am ready to accept that I lost,” she said.

Yesufu further explained that she had chosen not to publicly respond to criticisms directed at her in recent days, noting that she remained focused on broader political and civic objectives.
